Method and sources
The Gisement Index tracks a basket of resources weighted by their importance to African economies: Brent crude 30%, Natural gas (Henry Hub) 10%, Uranium 3%, Gold 20%, Platinum 7%, Copper 10%, Aluminium 2%, Iron ore 5%, Cobalt 8%, Lithium (carbonate) 2%, Manganese 3%. It is calculated daily from price changes (base 100 on the first day of calculation). A commodity without a recent price is temporarily held at its last known price.
Automatic prices: futures markets (Stooq). Commodities without a free public quote (cobalt, lithium, manganese, iron ore, uranium…) are updated by the newsroom from professional sources. Prices may be delayed and are provided for information only: they are not investment advice.
